Antique Venetian Gooseberry Bead Necklace Carved Jade Pendant

Hand knotted using a macramé technique, these antique gooseberry beads were made in Venice by the Venetian glass guilds. They earned their name by the mottled appearance. They were worn as a form of status and currency and traded during the trans-Saharan and trans-Atlantic bead trade. The yellow carved jade in the very famous neolithic Hongshan culture style. The artisan clasp is sterling silver and tiger’s eye.
