Hand knotted antique (circa 1800s) Prosser bead choker with sterling silver clasp. The English Prosser brothers patented a method in 1840 for pressing powdered ceramic or porcelain with binding agents into buttons, a technique later adapted by a Frenchman who applied the same button-press process to beadmaking, giving rise to Prosser beads. These beads are made from mixed with binding materials, then pressed in molds under heat to form durable, brightly colored beads with crisp shapes. Pair with companion piece TC-1049. -
