The Blue Men of the Sahara Necklace
Overall Length: 16″, 18″, 21″
Wrapped in blue indigo dyed cloth called tagelmoust, the adult males of the semi-nomadic Saharan Tuareg tribes excelled in multiple metal-smithing and leather jewelry. These handcrafted elegant amulets were worn around necks or tied to their blue veils or familial tents to ward off evil, hatred, and disease. The fine hand etched designs in this silver and leather amulet are a wonderful cultural example of Tuareg jewelry making skill. Assembled with three rows of handmade batik, pierced, saw-edge camel bone and sterling silver Balinese face beads, an unusual accessory is born.
