Artisan handmade porcelain bead necklace with silver encased lapis lazuli pendant. Porcelain was first perfected in China during the Tang dynasty and was known for its exceptional quality. Blue and white beads became iconic worldwide. Difficult to produce, porcelain was considered a luxury. In the early 1700s the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory discovered a hard paste porcelain and beads became more widely available. In the manufacture of porcelain, ordinary clay becomes durable and beautiful through intense heat leading to the symbolic meanings of transformation and resilience.
